This Code of Conduct outlines the expected behavior and standards for all members of the OtterBay Masters Water Polo Club. Our aim is to foster a positive, respectful, inclusive, and competitive environment where everyone can enjoy the sport and contribute to a thriving community. By participating in the club, all members agree to abide by this Code.
Our club is built upon the following core values:
Respect: Treat all individuals – teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, volunteers, and lifeguards – with dignity and respect, regardless of age, gender, ability, background, or opinion.
Sportsmanship: Play fairly, adhere to USA Water Polo rules, and demonstrate grace in both victory and defeat.
Safety: Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants.
Inclusivity: Create an environment where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to participate.
Accountability: Take responsibility for your actions and their impact on others and the club.
Commitment: Demonstrate dedication to the club, training, and club activities.
All members are expected to:
Effort & Engagement: Give your best effort during training and games, and actively engage with teammates.
Fair Play: Play by the rules of USA water polo and the spirit of the game. Avoid unsportsmanlike conduct, including excessive aggression, cheating, or feigning injury.
Respect Officials & Opponents: Accept decisions made by referees and officials without argument. Treat opponents with respect before, during, and after games.
Teamwork: Support and encourage your teammates. Communicate effectively and constructively.
Equipment Care: Take care of club equipment and facilities. Report any damage or issues promptly.
Represent the Club: Conduct yourself in a manner that positively reflects the club's values.
Social Media: Use club related social media responsibly. Do not post derogatory comments, inappropriate content, or engage in bullying or harassment related to the club, its members, opponents, or officials.
Alcohol: If consuming alcohol at club social events, do so responsibly and in accordance with legal age limits and venue policies.
Financial Obligations: Fulfill all financial commitments to the club (e.g., dues, fees) in a timely manner.
Adhere to Safety Protocols: Follow all safety guidelines and procedures established by the club and facility management.
Report Injuries: Immediately report any injuries or health concerns to a Board member.
Personal Health: Ensure you are in appropriate physical condition to participate. Do not participate if you are unwell or have an injury that could be exacerbated.
No Discrimination: The club has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, harassment, or bullying based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, or any other protected characteristic.
Respectful Language: Use appropriate language at all times. Avoid offensive, abusive, or discriminatory remarks.
Personal Boundaries: Respect the personal space and boundaries of others.
Club leaders are expected to:
Lead by example, upholding all aspects of this Code of Conduct.
Provide a safe, positive, and challenging environment for all members.
Communicate clearly and fairly with all members.
Prioritize the well-being and development of players.
Any concerns or breaches of this Code of Conduct should be reported to a Board Member. All reports will be handled with discretion and respect for privacy. The club will aim to resolve conflicts fairly and constructively, encouraging open communication where appropriate.
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, which could include, but is not limited to:
Verbal warning
Written warning
Suspension from club practices or tournaments
Suspension from the club for a defined period
Termination of club membership
The severity of the disciplinary action will depend on the nature and frequency of the violation.
By becoming a member of the OtterBay Masters Water Polo Club, I acknowledge that I have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. I understand that failure to comply with this Code may result in disciplinary action, including the termination of my membership.
